Asked by French reporters about his comments Macron said he didn't expect Trump to rejoin the Paris accord but did expect that America will.
He recalled how the United States and France have fought "shoulder to shoulder in many battles" over the years and insisted the two countries have a shared common vision of the "universal ideals of liberty, tolerance and equal rights".
Macron defended his strategy of befriending Trump even as other leaders see him as a danger to the worldwide world order.
He said: "We had a fantastic time and much more importantly we accomplished a lot". But he added that fear and anger "do not construct anything".
With a nod to great American leaders, including former President Franklin Roosevelt, he warned against withdrawing from the world in fear. "We'll see also if I do what some people expect, whether or not it will be possible to do a new deal with solid foundations".
"Today, the worldwide community needs to step up our game and build the 21st century world order", he said.

Trump called the Iran agreement a "terrible deal" that was "insane" and "ridiculous" because it did not deal with ballistic missiles or Iran's involvement in conflicts such as those in Yemen or Syria. "Let us face it". To some, it was an ironic reminder that more than a year after being walloped by Trump in the election, Democrats have yet to coalesce behind either a cohesive message or a messenger, still plaintively searching for the kind of energetic, fresh-faced leader that Macron represents.
"I'm not saying we're moving from one deal to another, I'm saying its one aspect of the problem", Macron said. "It may happen, like in all families", he said - but such differences would be short-term.
"I'm convinced that if we decide to open our eyes wider, we will be stronger, we will overcome the dangers, we will not let the rampaging work of extreme nationalism shake a world full of hopes for greater prosperity", he said.
"He understands where I am coming from with respect to Iran".
Trump said past year that his country would withdraw from the accord, which aims to reduce damaging emissions and was signed by nearly 200 countries. Like Macron, their biggest challenge is the absence of any guarantee that Trump will accept the result.
"Without reason, without truth, there is no real democracy", he said.
"This agreement may not address all concerns", Macron said.
He also warned against "terrorist propaganda that spreads its fanaticism on the Internet".
Mr Trump and Mr Macron donned tuxedos and greeted each other with a traditional French two-cheek kiss before heading with their wives for a lavish state dinner on Wednesday.
