The Today SHow reported on it this morning, and tonight the program Brokaw anchored for over 20 years addressed it as well.
The allegation against Mr. Brokaw comes as NBC News, a division of Comcast Corp.'s NBCUniversal, is still reeling from the exit of Matt Lauer, who was sacked in November as lead anchor of its morning show "Today" after a network staffer accused him of inappropriate sexual behavior.
Former NBC News correspondent Linda Vester and an anonymous former production assistant have told the Washington Post that anchor Tom Brokaw made unwanted sexual advances and acted inappropriately with them in the 1990s.
Brokaw alleged that Vester "was given a free hand to try to destroy all that I have achieved with my family, my NBC career, my writing and my citizenship".
Brokaw is the most recent of many media personalities to be accused of sexual misconduct in recent months, including his former colleague Matt Lauer, who left the Today show and the network after several women came forward with allegations.
"I met with Linda Vester on two events, each at her request, 23 years in the past, as a result of she needed recommendation with respect to her profession at NBC", Brokaw stated in an announcement issued by NBC that was supplied to The Put up. Neither women reported the incidents at the time. NBC told the Post, via a spokesperso\n, that the company does not have a record of Curry's warning, adding it is not mentioned in Lauer's file.
In a statement to The Post, Vester's lawyer said that "my client stands by the allegations which speak for themselves". She said Brokaw went to her NY hotel room once in the mid-1990s, proposed an affair and tried to forcibly kiss her.
He says that he did go to her room but should not have and did not verbally or physically attack her in any way. He did not detail the conversation that Vester claimed took place but said that "as that discussion advanced she often reminded me she was Catholic and that she was uncomfortable with my presence".
Vester told the Post that she was frightened of angering Brokaw during the interaction.
Vester told the Post she does not intend to sue Brokaw or NBC. That move she so vividly describes is NOT WHO I AM.
Mr. Brokaw's 1,037-word email was sent to a small group of recipients who included Mr. Lack; Lester Holt, the "NBC Nightly News" anchor; and David Remnick, the editor of The New Yorker.
