The City of Burnaby also filed an appeal with the Supreme Court of Canada today (Wednesday) over the NEB decision made past year that allows Trans Mountain to bypass Burnaby tree and permitting bylaws. She will speak about the government's efforts to get a pipeline built to tidewater, said a chamber news release.

The government says the campaign will until the pipeline is in operation.

"We will continue to assess and re-assess the situation and (do) what is appropriate and necessary to get the project built, so I don't have a final number for you", said Cheryl Oates, the premier's director of communications, in an email.

Corrigan, who has long opposed the pipeline expansion project, said he believed "even federal pipelines" should follow normal rules within municipalities and respect municipal approval processes. It would have the potential to cause gasoline and other fuel-related prices to spike in B.C.

"If British Columbia attains the right to throttle our resources, every other province will be given the same right", Notley said. "The economic consequences would be severe throughout the country". On Thursday, Ms. Notley confirmed that, like Saskatchewan, her province will seek status in the case.

Notley said Thursday that Ottawa is in "serious and determined discussions" with Alberta and Kinder Morgan, but wouldn't give further details. "We don't believe the federally appointed NEB is the right place to review municipal processes". She declined to provide any details.

The company threw the $7.4-billion expansion into doubt last month when it stopped non-essential spending on the project and spelled out a May 31 deadline to restore certainty.

The Liberal government approved the pipeline expansion in 2016, but the B.C. government has been fighting it.

As for Alberta's upcoming legislation which would restrict oil and gas shipments to the West Coast, Bill 12, Notley expects her government to vote on it early next week.

MLAs agreed to an amendment by Alberta Party MLA Karen McPherson to put a two-year limit on those powers.
