Cohen reportedly received $600,000 from AT&T, $1.2 million from Swiss drugmaker Novartis, $150,000 from South Korean aviation firm Korea Aerospace Industries and $500,000 from Columbus Nova, an investment firm linked to a Russian oligarch.

Sanders was asked Friday about Michael Cohen's payments from blue chip companies, including AT&T, which sought advice on its proposed purchase of Time Warner.

Stephenson announced that Bob Quinn, one of the executives involved in the Cohen deal, "will be retiring".

Quinn, who has been in his position since 2016, originally started with the Bell system as an operator for Illinois Bell in 1980, before AT&T was broken up by the Justice Department in a landmark antitrust action four years later.

Critics claim Rudy Giuliani's opinions are making a lot more problems for the president, while supporters say that the fellow member of Trump's legal workforce is shifting social media storyline; Foxnews subscribers Judy Miller along with Tammy Bruce unite the debate.

AT&T noted in the fact sheet that Cohen was among "several consultants" the company hired as Trump was assuming the presidency. Last year, AT&T spent almost $17 million on federal lobbying, the third highest among companies.

At the same time he was collecting $50,000 a month from AT&T, Cohen was being paid large sums to advise other companies on a broad variety of issues, including the Affordable Care Act, accounting practices and real estate.

Wyden, a Democrat from OR, noted in a letter to Narasimhan that at the time Novartis was paying Cohen, it was seeking approval and negotiating a payment deal with the USA government for a cancer drug called Kymriah that has a list price of $475,000.

Stephenson insisted in his memo that "everything we did was done according to the law and entirely legitimate" and that Cohen did not do any lobbying on behalf of AT&T.

AT&T said Cohen's company, Essential Consultants, did no legal or lobbying work for the company. But the fact is, our past association with Cohen was a serious misjudgment.

Avenatti represents Daniels, 39, in two separate lawsuits against Trump and his longtime personal attorney, Michael Cohen.

Cohen drew up the agreement, complete with fake names for Trump and Daniels, and paid the money using a shell company he registered in DE just days earlier.

Giuliani said Cohen's business relationships did not contradict Trump's campaign promises to end "pay-to-play" schemes and to "drain the swamp" because Cohen did not get for his newfound clients what they wanted. Cohen has not been charged with any crime, and his lawyer has maintained that he has done nothing improper.

A Justice Department spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a request for comment. There has been no communication with Mueller's office since then, the company said.

Michael Cohen exits the U.S. Federal Court on April 16, 2018 in Lower Manhattan, New York.

Federal law requires companies such as AT&T to register individuals as lobbyists if they devote at least 20 percent of their time contacting and trying to influence key government decision-makers, including the president. The companies were not allowed to pursue that line of argument during the trial, but they may try to use it should they lose the case and appeal.
