LeBron James dominates against Celtics to keep Cavaliers' NBA Finals hopes alive

  • Does a Game 6 Loss Mean LeBron Is Done in Cleveland?

That's my prevailing thought the morning after he and his Cavaliers teammates defeated the Celtics in Game 7 of the 2018 Eastern Conference Finals.

It was just another night James just had it like that.

"Guys really chipped in and helped in the absence of Kevin, and LeBron brought us home as usual", Lue said.

James scored a huge 46 points - his seventh outing of the play-offs with at least 40 points - as well as clocking up 11 rebounds and nine assists to be the night's standout man. People can say what they want. Not typically one to be outdone, it was James from start to finish in Game 6, and it's fair to assume there will be more to come.

Celtics coach Brad Stevens said he "can't say enough good things" about James but he insisted his side will be "ready to go" in Sunday's decider.

The Celtics hung around in the second half and pulled within 100-93 on Marcus Smart's basket with 4:29 left.

By the midway point of the second quarter, the Celtics had built up a 12-point lead, and were threatening to run away with the game before halftime.

"He just fought through everything tonight", Lue said.

"It feels good just to be able to play for another game", said James, who has been to seven straight NBA Finals with Miami and Cleveland. The Celtics kept battling, cutting the lead into single digits on multiple occasions in the fourth quarter, but it never really felt like they had a chance to win, and that's because of LeBron James.

James weathered an early storm by the visiting C's, and took over the game by playing point-center with an energetic, defensively active reserve-heavy second unit early in the second quarter. He went to the locker room and was eventually ruled out of the game. A CliffsNotes version of the first quarter: Smith clanked a jumper off the side of the backboard, Love clunked heads with Jayson Tatum, and Jaylen Brown (15 points) nearly outscored Cleveland by himself as Boston opened a 25-20 lead.

The Cavs held a double-digit lead throughout the third quarter before Boston got within a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Rest up, king. You're going to have your work cut out for you after the Western Conference Final is decided. But they struggled from the line, going 11-for-20 for 55 percent.

Percentages: FG.471, FT.818. Marcus Morris has been tasked with being one of the primary defenders against LeBron James, knowing full well he - or any National Basketball Association player for that matter - can only hope to slow him down. When Rozier went up for the lay-in, James blocked it off the backboard and right to Green.

Team Rebounds: 10. Team Turnovers: 13 (7 PTS).
