  • Leinster win tense 2018 Champions Cup Final

Records can be equalled, firsts can be achieved and history beckons for Leo Cullen or Laurent Travers when Leinster face off against Racing 92 in the European Rugby Champions Cup final on Saturday.

First-five Johnny Sexton kicked three penalties and New Zealander Isa Nacewa slotted two as the Irish province added to their 2009, 2011 and 2012 triumphs in the continent's most prestigious club competition.

"We were pretty clinical in the semis, but I definitely think there's another gear in us and after the game we kind of knew ourselves", Leavy said.

The game kicks off at 5.45pm local time so we'll be on air for 4.45pm with full commentary and analysis.

Leinster coach Cullen and Racing counterpart Travers are not just fighting it out to lead their sides to glory. We're under no illusions, it's a very formidable bunch of players that we'll be up against.

"We had a big heart today, but that's not enough".

Racing regained possession immediately from the restart, piled on the pressure but their final drop goal was put wide with clock in the red.

A pre-match hamstring injury spoiled Carter's European swansong, with Racing's injury list already including talismanic skipper Maxime Machenaud (knee) and Dimitri Szarzewski (bicep).

Starting first-five Pat Lambie sustained a knee injury in the second minute, so French worldwide Tales, who did not feature on the team list in the morning, had to deputise.

Sexton levelled the scores with a penalty of his own in the opening quarter and the two kickers would exchange further three-pointers to leave the scores level at 6-6 at the break.

They traded a couple more penalties before the interval after the French side defended aggressively, disrupting Leinster's usually well-oiled machine.

However, they benefited from Racing's lack of discipline and Nacewa scored the decisive penalties with Sexton carrying a groin injury. Sexton suffered his second miss from long range, following a James Ryan lineout steal, and as the contest became increasingly scrappy, Iribaren's only penalty miss let Dan Leavy off the hook for a high tackle.
