Michelle Wolf: 'I Wouldn't Change a Single Word' of WHCD Speech

  • Michelle Wolf Absolutely Destroyed Sarah Huckabee Sanders At The 2018 White House Correspondents’ Dinner

Comedian Michelle Wolf performs at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner in Washington, U.S., April 28, 2018. She quipped that "it's kind of insane that the Trump campaign was in contact with Russian Federation when the Hillary campaign wasn't even in contact with Michigan", and joked about CNN's hyperactive approach to coverage. Did Michelle Wolf go too far with her jokes about Sarah Huckabee Sanders?

Wolf responded overnight on Twitter by saying "all these jokes were about her despicable behavior", not looks. Sanders might not have personally spent the last few months making fun of poor countries, the disabled, or the media, but she works for a man and an administration that has made a regular habit out of being unnecessarily obnoxious. Several people, liberals as well as conservatives, demanded that Ms Wolf apologise for mocking Mrs Sanders's appearance-though of course Mr Trump has made juvenile derision of people's looks his stock-in-trade.

Yes, of course Wolf was a little mean-it's called a roast for a reason!-like when she compared Sanders to Aunt Lydia, the female enforcer of misogynist oppression in The Handmaid's Tale.

Of course, the real subtext is that the people rallying to defend Sanders by reading accusations of unattractiveness into jokes about deceitfulness, female misogyny, and intimidation are actually showing that they themselves think she is unattractive, or else why would this misinterpretation have even occurred to them?

"Honestly, I wouldn't change a single word", she said. "I said she burns facts and uses the ash to create a *perfect* smoky eye".

"It was disgusting, despicable", said Henry.

"The White House Correspondents dinner was a failure last year, but this year was a complete embarrassment to everyone associated with it", he wrote. "What a contrast to what the president was doing [at the rally], talking about issues that people actually care about". The organization's leader said she regretted that Michelle Wolf's routine may end up defining an evening that was created to rally around journalism. "I think she's very resourceful", Wolf said at the event. "All she does is lie", Wolf said.

Famous comedians including Kumail Nanjian and Emily Nassbaum showcased their support for wolf while criticising those who criticised Wolf for her comments.

In interviews with CNNMoney, Knox and other White House correspondents said informal conversations are already underway.

Wolf delivered a brilliant performance, but the biggest joke of the night was undoubtedly the pearl clutching that came afterwards from people otherwise committed to excusing sexism at every turn.

Later in his speech, he sings a musical tribute to New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman, while cable-news stalwarts Wolf Blitzer, Sean Hannity and Rachel Maddow also get spoofed along the way. The president has attacked individual journalists and press organizations in ways we've never seen.

"My only regret is that to some extent those 15 minutes are now defining four hours of what was a really wonderful unifying night and I don't want the cause of unity to be undercut", Talev said Sunday on CNN's "Reliable Sources".

In a statement Sunday evening, she said Wolf's stand-up act did not reflect the "spirit" of the association's mission. The Trump administration (and its legion of frothing supporters) love to scream FAKE NEWS and SNOWFLAKE, but when it suits them to retcon facts to indulge their own naked oversensitivity, they grab it with all the enthusiasm of a. well, you know what. Among them was Howard Fineman, an analyst at NBC News and MSNBC.
