Romney denounces pastor slated to speak at United States embassy in Jerusalem

Dallas megachurch pastor Robert Jeffress will give the opening prayer Monday at the controversial opening of the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem. He's said the same about Islam. "The truth that I, together with tens of hundreds of thousands of evangelical Christians all over the world, proceed to espouse that perception, is neither bigoted nor newsworthy". He preached at a private service for Trump and his family prior to his inauguration in January 2017.

Jeffress was attacked for saying publicly what the Bible teaches; that faiths like Mormonism that add to the Bible are cults, and that any person who has not accepted Christ is not going to Heaven.

According to a report from Haaretz, Jeffress has made derogatory remarks about Islam in the past, calling it "a religion that promotes pedophilia" and a "heresy from the pit of hell".

The White House invited Jeffress to participate in the opening of the embassy after it was moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, an invitation that was met by widespread criticism.

In an interview with the Christian Post at the end of 2016, Jeffress declared that President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry were "on the wrong side of God on this issue" when the USA chose not to veto a United Nations resolution on Israeli settlements in the West Bank.

While a coalition of Orthodox, Catholic and Protestant churches praised the Obama administration decision, many conservative evangelicals opposed it. We find it amusing that the next person to be elected on that "path" was President Trump.

The pastor is set to lead a prayer at the ceremony, during which he told Fox News Radio would recount "God's history of faithfulness to his people, the Israelites".

Jeffress has been a staunch supporter of the president and is a member of Trump's evangelical advisory panel. Jeffress said he would "be thanking God for the strong leadership of Benjamin Netanyahu, who is absolutely determined to protect Israel". Christians United for Israel's John Hagee said that because of the embassy move, Trump "will be remembered for thousands of years".

In a 2010 Politically Incorrect lecture series, Jeffress is reported to have said: "God sends good people to Hell".

Welcome to the Red State...
