Sixers will pick No. 10 overall in the 2018 NBA Draft

  • Teams hope to find luck in NBA draft lottery

The Suns received their first-ever No. 1 NBA Draft pick in franchise history Tuesday but there's no guarantee they will spend it on adopted Arizonan Deandre Ayton. The Los Angeles Lakers sent their unprotected first-round pick - 10th overall - to the Philadelphia 76ers, finally completing the Steve Nash trade from six years ago after taking the second pick each of the past three years.

The Suns, an NBA-worst 21-61 this season, had the highest odds at the No. 1 pick at 25 percent entering the drawing.

"This is a historic night for the Phoenix Suns", general manager Ryan McDonough said in a statement. Despite finishing tied with the Hawks for the third-worst record overall and even winning a tiebreaker for more ping-pong balls, the Mavs will not pick above the Hawks this year - though they will likely still have a chance to pick a dominant big man, which is something they've coveted for years. "I coached Luka", Kokoskov told local media. Kokoskov coached worldwide prospect and consensus top three pick, Luka Doncic, overseas and could try to reunite in the desert. "I think we'll have a great choice, no matter who we select". Kokoskov coached Slovenia - and Doncic - to the gold medal at the European championships last summer. "We're going to do our job and obviously, I'm glad that we played the last two years to develop guys and try to win games".

The upcoming draft is full of NBA-ready talent.

That the Celtics continue to have a stake in the lottery five years after Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge traded Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for three unprotected first-round picks, and the right to swap a fourth, is an unprecedented spoil of riches given that Boston is also playing in its second straight Eastern Conference finals. The top three spots were determined by the lottery, and then spots 4-14 fell in line of reverse order of record. The Charlotte Hornets hold the No. 11 pick, and the Los Angeles Clippers will pick back-to-back at Nos. On Tuesday night, the Cavs found out that pick would be the number eight.
