  • A Malian migrant in France rescued a child who was hanging from a 4th floor balcony of a building in Paris

Paris prosecutor François Molins told the BFM television network that the father of the child had gone grocery shopping but was delayed in coming home as chose to play the smartphone game after leaving the store. His mother was out of town.

The charge against the unnamed father carries a sentence of up to two years in prison.

A young Malian migrant is being praised in France after scaling up four floors to rescue a young child dangling from a Paris balcony.

With simple words, a visibly nervous Mamoudou Gassama described the heroic act that forever changed his life.

"I just didn't have time to think, I ran across the road to go and save him".

"Thank God, I scaled the front of the building to that balcony", Gassama said.

Elysee Palace announced Gassama, who has been in the country for a few months, will receive French citizenship to thank him for his heroics.

"Congratulations to Mamoudou Gassama for his act of bravery that saved the life of a child", the mayor tweeted.

And what a lucky break for the baby having Gassama there with the brawn to get the job done. "Then I saw video on the internet". It is learnt that parents of the child were not at home when the incident took place and that the father is now facing legal action for having left the young child unattended. "It is only right that the nation be grateful", Macron told the 22-year-old, before telling him his immigration status would be "put in order", reports Agency France-Presse.

He was later awarded with a medal for his bravery by French President Emmanuel Macron and will soon be made an official French citizen. "As I was climbing up, I felt more and more confident".

Gassama recounted the chain of events on Saturday night to France's Le Parisien newspaper.

I like children, I would have hate to see him getting hurt in front of me. But authorities have been less than impressed with the father of the boy for leaving the child alone.

President Macron posted a message on Facebook, along with photos of his meeting with Gassama. "When we realized the child was safe we all started clapping and congratulating him because what he did... honestly... it was unbelievable", explained eyewitness Cissokho Goundo.
