A nine-year-old English bulldog called Zsa Zsa has won this year's world's ugliest dog contest.

The annual competition, which helps organizers publicize the many pets available for adoption, allows owners to flaunt the imperfections of their dogs.

The dogs walk down a red carpet and are evaluated by a panel of judges.

Zsa Zsa's owner, Megan Brainard of Anoka, MN will get an impressive $1, 500 for the win and of course, bragging rights for her precious pooch! Continuing the paradox of the contest, Megan Brainard, who obviously loves her dog, said, "We are so excited for her". Some people think she's too conventionally cute of a dog to be claiming such a loud title.

She fought off stiff competition from Wild Thang - a Pekingese with a shit-ton of fur - and Rascal Deux, which looks like a cross between a bat and some Poundland hair extensions.

Mrs Kravitz, a Chihuahua, runs on stage during the World's Ugliest Dog Contest. Here's what our winning pup's profile had to say about her life before World's Ugliest Dog stardom. She was almost blind from neglect when she was rescued in Sonoma County, California.

Last year a three-year old Neopolitan Mastiff named Martha took the crown.

Rather than poke fun at the dogs, the competition celebrates canines in all their shapes and sizes, many of whom, like this year's victor, come from shelters or puppy mills.

Josie finished third in the contest and Scamp, a dog owned by Yvonne Morones of Santa Rosa, finished second among the 14 dogs that competed. It took her family three days to drive out to Petaluma for the contest.

The contest is usually held on a Friday night, but organisers moved this year's competition to Saturday in an effort to draw a bigger audience.
