Neymar's sister injures herself while celebrating his goal for Brazil

  • Brazil can still turn chances into success at World Cup

Brazil's team doctor has offered a freaky excuse for why defender Marcelo was substituted during the country's final group match against Serbia on Thursday.

Early analysis showed that Marcelo, who was all teary when he was substituted just after 10 minutes of the game, was suffering from back problems.

The 33-year-old claimed after Brazil beat Costa Rica that he was "saddened" because the £198million forward had "insulted" him during the game.

Seleção team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar has explained that the left-back was removed as a precaution after muscles in his back seized up, before suggesting that Marcelo's mattress could have been to blame.

There is a chance that Marcelo will miss this game due to injury but that shouldn't change much for a Brazilian side that is stacked with talent. "Maybe it was the hotel's mattress, which was a bit more soft than usual". I know it was his back, more than that the doctor can explain.

The Selecao ended up topping group E in Russian Federation, and will now face North American giants Mexico in the competition's round of 16 on Monday.

Sylvinho, who is part of the team's coaching staff, said that Neymar is "getting better" as the tournament progresses.

Visibly struggling, the Real Madrid defender was initially reluctant to leave the pitch, before being replaced by his Atletico Madrid counterpart Filipe Luis.
