Sony’s Response To Fortnite Backlash Doesn’t Assuage Concerns

  • Fortnite is available on the Nintendo Switch starting today

Sony's stock may be taking a hit in the wake of crossplay problems with red-hot video game "Fortnite", but its fellow video game company and competitor Nintendo has taken the issues in stride.

But some came out of the event looking better than others. What we believe at Nintendo is that a gameplay mechanic that offers the consumer something to buy that they're not sure what's inside can be interesting as long as that's not the only way you can get those items.

Nintendo of America's product marketing manager Bill Trinen, however, did say in a statement to Kotaku that we'll be hearing more about the game "later this year", so not all hope is lost.

Many fans are understandably upset.

When Nintendo announced a Switch version of the title this week during E3, players soon found out that if they had logged into their Epic Games account on a PlayStation 4, they couldn't bring their progress and purchases with them to the Switch.

In response to the numerous players that have made their complaints heard about the lack of Fortnite account compatibility between PS4 and its competing consoles - in this case, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch - a Sony spokesperson issued an official statement to BBC on the matter of Fortnite cross-compatibility with other platforms. The Switch only just received Fortnite in their gaming catalog this week.

Frustrations with Sony over the topic are bubbling all over social media. In fact, its availability on Apple's mobile platform has cemented itself as one of - if not the - the most popular games in the world.

These new additions could almost triple the amount of "viable" stages while also adding much more depth and variety to the selection for more casual players looking for fairer matches without needing to worry about hazards or heading straight for Final Destination and add more to the stage select meta for more competitive players. "I was a tester on PC whos (sic) finished every season and spent hundreds of dollars on the game but nope no Switch play for me since I played once on a PS4", said one person on Reddit. That being said, Nintendo wants to remain vigilant in their play experience and have renewed their commitment to player accessibility.

With E3 2018 said and done, the major publishers have left gamers with all kinds content to look forward to in the near future.
