  • But Downing Street has gone no further than insisting similar policies would not be implemented in the UK's'humane system

She said the close United Kingdom -U.S. bond meant "when we disagree with what they are doing, we say so".

She was challenged on the issue at Prime Minister's Questions by the SNP's Ian Blackford and a host of Labour MPs, including former leader Ed Miliband.

"Many of us in this House [of Commons] would be aware of deeply distressing audio and images of children separated from their parents in USA detention centers", Blackford said. "This is not something that we agree with".

"Donald Trump is a big, angry baby with a fragile ego", founder Leo Murray said in a statement explaining the planned protest.

The President's advance teams will be in the United Kingdom next week to sort out more details of the visit, st to be scheduled on Friday, July 13.

At Westminster, Mrs May came under pressure at Prime Minister's Questions to condemn Mr Trump's separation policy.

Ahead of the president's visit to the UK in July, the Prime Minister said the nature of the "special" relationship with the United States meant "when we disagree with what they are doing, we say so".

Last month, however, U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the government would criminally prosecute everyone who crosses the U.S. -Mexico border illegally, a decision that has led to the breakup of migrant families, with hundreds of children being placed under the government's care.

Mr Trump's tough new immigration policy has seen more than 2,000 children separated from the parents and placed in holding centres as the adults are prosecuted for entering the USA illegally.

A Department of Homeland Security spokesman told reporters last week that 1,995 children were separated from 1,940 adults who crossed the USA border without documents between April 19 and May 31.

Children are being kept in cages after being taken from their parents.

The children, who are not charged with a crime, are being housed in detention centres, including warehouses and converted supermarkets.

Long before the current outrage over separating children from their parents, the invitation to Trump had already attracted condemnation in Britain.

More than 1.8 million people signed a petition opposing the president's visit shortly after he was invited by May.
