  • Apple to introduce iPhone-to-iPhone Augmented Reality Sharing on Monday

Various new features and functions for macOS 10.14, iOS 12, watchOS 5 and tvOS 12 will be announced at WWDC, so that developers can tailor their upcoming creations to future versions of Apple's operating systems.

Apple will nearly certainly present us with our first look at iOS 12 at its annual WWDC conference on Monday. Given the flurry of issues that iOS 11 raised, the iOS 12 update may focus on improving reliability and performance on the devices it powers. It launched the iAd platform in 2010, where app developers could insert Apple's technology into their apps and users would be shown programmatically placed ads in the app.

ARKit 2.0 could contain a new mode that lets you and your friends play against each other in the same augmented reality world.

The predicted cross-over between apps designed for iPhone and those designed for use on desktop is the most interesting rumour to surface thus far, in an uncharacteristically quiet year for the online gossip mill.

While there are many reports on what to expect, and what to not expect, from San Jose on Monday, here is a personal list of what I would like to see as a user of Apple products. At last year's conference, for example, Apple upgraded almost its entire Mac line, previewed the iMac Pro, launched new iPad Pros and showed off the HomePod smart speaker.

Apple's new wireless charging mat AirPower, which was first announced alongside the iPhone 8 and iPhone X past year and has been slated for release in 2018, could also make an appearance. A new Apple Watch model with a larger display is also rumored for "later this year". There also might be some news about Apple's streaming service. These changes will be the most notable external enhancements since the Watch launched about three years ago, but the new models will still support watch bands from earlier models, another person said. This is the software that will define the experience of 2018's new iPhones, and also update current iPhones and iPads when it comes out to devices later this year. Just like with any major iOS update, Apple is rolling it OTA (over the air) which means that iPhone owners need to keep their eyes peeled at the notifications panel because the update should arrive anytime now.
