The 29-year-old cited "racism and disrespect" as a key reason behind his decision to end his worldwide football career having won the World Cup in 2014.

"We want to help all the players and Mesut to feel here with us like he´s at home, like a family", Emery, who is in his first weeks as Arsenal coach, said during a pre-season visit to Singapore.

"I am very happy with him, every player is looking together and Mesut has the respect of every player here. We're a family and we'll offer him our full support".

Unai Emery says he respects Mesut Ozil's decision to retire from global football with Germany and wants to offer him a semblance of normality at Arsenal.

Ozil and Ilkay Gundogan, a teammate also of Turkish descent who posed with Erdogan as well, were jeered by German fans in warm-up games before the tournament began.

The German Football Association said it "emphatically rejected" Ozil's accusations of racism.

The Arsenal star announced that he would be calling time on his Germany career following the defending champions' exit from the World Cup at the group stage.

Ozil said he received threats and hate mail after the photographs with Erdogan were published.

Ozil declined to comment on Wednesday as he took part in a training session at a private school in Singapore ahead of Thursday´s friendly against Atletico Madrid. "They are great teams with great players, it's a test for us to get ready for the new season, so it's something to look forward to".

"I prefer to give him normality in the team, he feels good with us".

"He feels here with us that he can work every day, and it is good for us that he made a decision to come here and work with us before our two matches". We are going to help him to feel good.

Arsenal take on Atletico Madrid at the National Stadium before they also play Paris St Germain on Sunday.
