"CBS is very mindful of all workplace issues and takes each report of misconduct very seriously".

Shares in CBS tumbled when the reports of the misconduct allegations began to circulate around noon Friday, as investors anxious that Moonves might be forced to step down.

Among the claims in the story is an accusation by actress and writer Illeana Douglas, who described a meeting with Moonves in which he held her down on a couch and kissed her without her consent.

Jo Ann Ross, one of the highest-ranked female executives at CBS, has voiced her support for long-time boss, Leslie Moonves, in the wake of a The New Yorker's expose of the CBS Corp. CEO.

In May, another article he wrote forced the swift resignation of NY state attorney general Eric Schneiderman, who was accused of physically assaulting four women. "But I always understood and respected. that "no" means 'no, ' and I have never misused my position to harm or hinder anyone's career".

After the article was published, the 68-year-old executive released the following statement where he apologizes for possibly making "some women uncomfortable by making advances".

Moonves clashed with Shari Redstone earlier this year over her bid to merge CBS with Viacom Inc, also owned by National Amusements.

"I think there's still a lot we don't know about the investigation".

According to Farrow, past and present employees told him that Fager "allowed harassment" at CBS News.

Four described forcible touching or kissing during business meetings, and two said Moonves physically intimidated them or threatened to derail their careers, The New Yorker's Ronan Farrow reported.

Farrow previously published a Pulitzer Prize-winning report about now-disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, which contributed to the producer's downfall. When she went to leave, Douglas told Farrow that Moonves momentarily blocked her path.

Moonves is now involved in a lawsuit over control of CBS with Shari Redstone.

Time will tell if Moonves will fall like Ailes, Lauer, Rose and many others. Shari Redstone is a major shareholder in both media companies, and has been seeking to combine them again.

He started out as a TV actor before developing Friends and ER with Warner Bros and then reviving an ailing CBS with hits including CSI, Everybody Loves Raymond and, most recently, The Big Bang Theory.

In November, CBS News sacked Charlie Rose, at the time one of the most respected TV journalists in the United States, after eight women told The Washington Post he had made unwanted sexual advances.

CBS' board of directors made a pre-emptive statement ahead of the publication of the story.

CBS' Julie Chen, his wife since 2004, issued a statement of full support. "Along with that team, we will continue to focus on creating value for our shareowners", the statement continues.

The CBS chief has been a towering figure in television for decades, credited with turning around a network that had been mired for years at the bottom ratings.

"Ms. Redstone hopes that the investigation of these allegations is thorough, open and transparent", the company said.
