CNN obtains secret Trump-Cohen tape

  • Former Playboy model Karen Mc Dougal says she had a months-long affair with Donald Trump after they met in 2006

The recording proves that President Trump had knowledge of a proposal to buy the rights to the story of Karen McDougal.

Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani told Fox News' "The Ingraham Angle" that Trump told Cohen, "don't pay with cash" and slammed Cohen for making the recording "surreptitiously".

"What Michael Cohen may know", Fox said, "I don't think it's making anyone in Trump world sleep soundly".

The former prosecutor said he spent about 4,000 hours listening to legal recordings in his career and he is confident that if the public listens to the tape three times, "it will become clear".

But Cohen's attorney Lanny Davis told CNN Tuesday evening that it's their opinion that Trump is heard suggesting the cash payment. David Pecker, the chairman of the National Enquirer's parent company, is a friend of Donald Trump's. Davis isn't wrong. And the release of the tape suggests that we have now entered a new phase in the ongoing drama surrounding Cohen and Trump - one in which the man who once pledged he would take a bullet for his boss has now turned on him amid the possibility of major criminal charges following the raid of Cohen's hotel, house and office by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in April. Trump tweeted on Wednesday, his first comments about the release of the taped conversation.

The discussion, which was captured on audio, related to whether Trump should buy the story from American Media, which paid McDougal $150,000 for the tale in in August 2016.

Federal prosecutors in NY are investigating Cohen for possible bank and tax fraud, and for possible campaign law violations linked to a $130,000 payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels and other matters related to Trump's campaign, a person familiar with the investigation has told Reuters.

In previously unreported interactions, some of which are memorialized in emails now under review, Mr. Cohen mediated a dispute between Omarosa Manigault-Newman, who had been a star on Mr. Trump's. They also talk about mundane matters with the campaign, such as polling numbers. "Cash is not what you do, and it was Michael Cohen who said, "No, no, no, no.' And Donald Trump, despite what Rudy Giuliani said publicly, the tape contradicts Mr. Giuliani and the word 'cash" is heard by everyone".

Seems kind of silly to worry about what channel [Melania Trump] watches on TV (any channel she wants btw) or if she heard some recording on the news.

Why did Lanny Davis release the tape? He believes that along with the president, Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and eldest son Donald Trump Jr., who he once considered a brother, are all working to undermine him.
