  • LS in serious & sincere mood Rajya Sabha MPs too take interest in No Trust debate

Reacting to the French government's response after his comments on the Rafale deal earlier during the no-confidence motion debate in Parliament, Congress president Rahul Gandhi has said that the French can deny it if they want.

The Congress party termed his speech as "dramebaazi" (theatrics). While the motion was defeated in the voice vote itself, the division of votes showed that the NDA had won 325 votes while the Opposition garnered 126 votes and none of the 451 members present had abstained. Soon after the announcement, all BJD MPs walked out of the lower House while the discussion on the Motion picked up momentum.

Continuing his attack on Prime Minister Modi government, Gandhi said: "One of those people was given the Rafale contract where the gentleman benefited to the tune of Rs. 45,000 crores".

India's ruling party sailed through a confidence vote in a theatrical parliamentary session which saw a startled Prime Minister Narendra Modi embraced by his chief political foe.

What do you have to say about the cartoon? Then Prime Minister Modi went to China without any agenda and said Doklam will not be discussed.

Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was in no danger of losing its first confidence motion since taking power four years ago, which was prompted by a minor party walking out of the governing coalition.

PM Modi said the NDA government has done several things for the benefit of the people, but the opposition does not believe in the facts.

At the end of his around 40-minute speech, Gandhi walked across to the treasury benches and hugged Modi who was surprised.

During his almost one-and-half hour long reply to the Congress leader's hug-capped scathing attack, PM Modi also took a dig at the Congress president's apparent post-hug wink in Parliament saying the entire nation saw what the eyes did today, as he made gestures with his hands and eyes to show Gandhi's action.

Several BJP leaders, including Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, took a swipe at the Congress president, saying a "strong natural disaster hit the Parliament" after his speech.

Sharply criticising the deal with the French government for the purchase of 36 Rafale fighter jets, he said the Prime Minister unilaterally announced the deal during the visit to Paris.

"India will be watching us closely", he said. "I will take out this hatred out of you and turn it into love", he said before striding across the floor to put his arms awkwardly around the seated prime minister. It said Modi addressed each of Gandhi's claims in a "tit-for-tat" manner.

He said the major opposition party had brought the no-trust motion "to spread instability in the country". He said that he had met French President in New Delhi who had told him there no such secrecy agreement with the Indian government.

Modi said the NDA government is committed towards the development of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. These states are peaceful and prospering.
