Apple on Thursday announced new 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pro which are faster than ever, can compile code faster and run multiple virtual machines and test environments easier than before. If you opt for the base model 15-inch MacBook Pro with just 256 GB of SSD storage, expect to shell out at least $2,399. No awful butterfly keyboard here! "It's the best notebook for pro users".
Apple says the new MacBook Pro models are part of the company's Back to School promotion starting in the United States from Tuesday, available to college students, their parents, faculty and staff through the Apple Education Store.
Asked if the keyboard had been redesigned with the express goal of eradicating the key failure problem, the spokesperson told me that the design has been changed for quieter operation, not specifically to address reliability and durability issues. This new third-generation keyboard wasn't created to solve those issues, Apple says. Apple isn't likely to acknowledge that, even if it's the case, and there's no official count of just how many MacBook Pro have encountered problems anyway.
The rest of the machines stay untouched, including the four Thunderbolt 3/USB-C ports, battery life and screen resolution. Extra features like bringing live sports and news to the TV app were also announced.Apple TV 4K is the first (and only) streaming device to support both Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision. The camera is still a mere 720p resolution, despite the persistent chatter of a TrueDepth camera upgrade in the works.
Now, Ming-Chi Kuo from KGI Securities says Apple will release three new iPhone models including a slightly cheaper 6.1-inch phone without 3D touch. For the same price as last year's lineup, we'll see monstrous performance upgrades that promise up to 70 percent more horsepower than previous hardware. The RAM can be as much as 32GB of DDR4 memory and GPUs are, of course, discrete AMD Radeon Pros with 4GB of video memory. The 13-inch model starts at $1,799 and the 15-inch version will set you back $2,399 to start. This model still relies on integrated graphics and starts at $1,299, going up to $3,699 fully loaded. Yep, Apple is actually offering a Core i9-equipped variant. Maxing out the storage to the 4 TB SSD is $3,400 or $3,200, depending on which core model you're starting from.
Plus, bumping the RAM from 16GB to 32GB adds another $400.
