North and South Korea will field joint teams in the men's and women's doubles as well as the mixed doubles in the tournament to be held in the South's city of Daejeon from Tuesday to Sunday, Yonhap news agency said.

According to a report in ABC News, a planned meeting between the two nations, scheduled to have taken place on Thursday, has been postponed on North Korea's request. The State Department later said the North Korean side had been in contact at midday to cancel that meeting Thursday and had suggested rescheduling to Sunday.

"We understand that the North-US talks on repatriation of the remains are underway", it quoted an unnamed official as saying.

The two countries - which are technically still at war after the 1950-53 Korean War ended with an armistice instead of a peace treaty - will also march together at the opening and closing ceremonies for the showpiece event from August 18-September 2.

President Donald Trump took to Twitter again Sunday to lament coverage of his administration and its fight against "fake news", calling much of the USA news media "indeed the enemy of the people".

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced the plan for talks earlier this month, after visiting the North Korean capital, Pyongyang.

"I firmly believe that the strong will, honest efforts and unique approach of myself and Your Excellency Mr. President aimed at opening up a new future between the DPRK and the USA will surely come to fruition", the letter reads. The last time North Korea turned over remains was in 2007, when Bill Richardson, a former United Nations ambassador and New Mexico governor, secured the return of six sets.

Graham then had a message for Pyongyang, referencing the fact that Kim Yong Chol, a top adviser to Kim Jong-un and a former spy chief, had asked Pompeo if he slept well during his visit to North Korea.

United States and South Korean officials say they are ready to help North Korea revive its economy if it gives up its nuclear program. There has been very little progress on disarmament since Mr Kim met Donald Trump in Singapore.

The amnesty, which will take effect on August 1, will be granted to those who were convicted of crimes against the state and its people, the Korean Central News Agency said. Military officials later walked back the statement stating that no remains had been repatriated since the summit.

Richard Downes, executive director of the Coalition of Families of Korean & Cold War POW/MIAs, said recently that he had been told the North may have the remains of more than 200 American service members that were likely recovered from land during farming or construction.

The White House has hailed the summit between Kim and Trump in Singapore as a major breakthrough toward disarming the isolated, nuclear-armed North in exchange for easing of sanctions and other help with economic development.
