  • Love To Mum Dad...: From Boys Trapped In Thai Cave Letters Of Hope

Gov Narongsak called them Moo 1, 2, 3 and 4.

The world has watched and waited for days as rescue teams attempted to get the boys out of a cave in Chiang Rai, Thailand.

Two ambulances left the cave and drove to a nearby helipad, and a helicopter was seen taking off.

Narongsak had dubbed Sunday to be "D-day" as the complicated effort was launched in the morning.

Thirteen foreign divers and five members of Thailand's elite navy SEAL unit will attempt to bring the boys - some of whom are as young as 11 and not strong swimmers - through narrow, submerged passageways that claimed the life of a former Thai navy diver earlier this week.

The trapped soccer team, which consists of boys aged 11-16, was found on Monday by a team of divers after a nine-day search.

A short time later, the Thai Navy SEAL official Facebook page announced four people were out of the cave.

Finnish volunteer diver Mikko Paasi, a long-term resident of Thailand, said the death of the Thai Navy SEAL had changed the mood on the ground and made real for rescuers just how unsafe the mission had become.

Mild weather and falling water levels over the past few days had created optimal conditions for an underwater evacuation that won't last if it rains again, Narongsak had said. But it began raining heavily just after the first boys were rescued.

However reports are now being made that the four boys rescued early this morning NZT were the weakest.

Rescuers have conceded that evacuating the boys is a race against time with monsoon rains expected to undo days of around-the-clock drainage of the deluged cave.

The next operation for the rest is set to resume in 10-20 hours, with officials and volunteers buoyed by the fact that their method of rescuing the boys by diving has been successful so far, he said. Monsoon flooding cut off their escape and prevented rescuers from finding them for nearly 10 days, CBS News reported.

"We, the Thai team and the global team, will bring the Wild Boars home", referencing the boys' soccer team name.

Elon Musk wrote on Twitter that engineers from two of his companies, the aerospace manufacturer SpaceX and the tunnel-construction company Boring Company, were headed to Thailand to lend their assistance.

Officials say the boys, ages 11 to 16, have been instructed on how to use diving equipment and are aware of the dangers maneuvering through unsafe, dark, and narrow tunnels. If the tests were successful, the sub would be placed on a 17-hour flight to Thailand.

U.S. President Donald Trump tweeted Sunday that the U.S. government is working closely with Thai officials to get the children to safety. "Very fearless and talented people!"

In letters written by the boys released Saturday, the boys appeared calm and reassured their families they were "fine".

In one, Pheerapat, nicknamed "Night", whose 16th birthday the group were celebrating in the cave when they became stuck on June 23, said: "I love you, Dad, Mum and my sister".
