  • Hua Chunying spokeswoman of China’s Foreign Ministry gestures at a regular news conference in Beijing China Jan. 6 2016

Chinese foreign direct investment into the United States actually fell during the first five months of 2018, according to Rhodium data.

Renmin University vice-president Liu Yuanchun said the country had entered a "real period of difficulty" because the trade war came in the middle of "painful" structural adjustment for the country. "Trade War Watch will keep a running tab of the casualties of the trade war to make clear to voters that Republicans are not on their side".

U.S. trade officials have repeatedly argued, both in press statements and at WTO committee meetings, that the Section 232 measures should not be treated as safeguards, but rather as justified measures taken for national security purposes, which would qualify for an exception from global trade rules.

U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened further tariffs unless Beijing agrees to change its intellectual property practices and high-technology industrial subsidy plans.

The Chinese seafood industry will likely be the bigger loser from the latest round of tariffs imposed by the Trump administration in its escalating trade war with China, Rabobank analysts said.

The foreign ministry spokeswoman told reporters that the United States is fabricating all kinds of justifications. That has got China back threatening more tariffs on the US.

"Unilateralism and trade bullying are unacceptable", Gao said.

Mr Wan Zhe, chief economist of International Cooperation Centre with the National Development and Reform Commission, said the real intention of the U.S. government initiating trade conflicts with other countries is to distract attention from its internal contradictions, such as the wealth gap and job losses.

Liu said the row had already put a dent in investor confidence in the Chinese stock market and currency.

"The U.S. trade war is not just with China but with the rest of the world".

Gold. "Our trade adversaries are now targeting US brands that they think will tell the story of why Trump's trade policy is a mistake" directly to his supporters.

Hua pointed out that China had recently released a white paper, "China and the World Trade Organization". The products are produced in the People's Republic of China, an authoritarian Maoist communist world power. "If this continues, this could be the beginning of the end of the bourbon boom".

The spokesperson also said the United States turns to diverse excuses, among which the issue of national security to créate barriers to business activities and investment of China in that country. "Claire McCaskill is too busy answering to donors and flying around in her private plane to listen to the concerns of Missouri workers here on the ground". But it is not hard to see that the sufferers of Trump's destabilizing trade fantasy are the developing economies of the world.

Here's a look at the WTO and what its role will be in the trade tussle.
