On Monday, US President Donald Trump said he would fully enforce sanctions imposed on Iran following his decision to pull out of the 2015 nuclear deal.

Mr Trump signed an executive order reintroducing financial sanctions on Iran and sent a letter to the leaders of Congress notifying them of changes, as required by United States law.

Some re-imposed sanctions took effect overnight and tougher ones relating to oil exports will begin in November.

"It would be better if the Iranian regime would disappear entirely from this world, but it would also be a blessing to see Obama's bad nuclear agreement replaced with a better one", he said.

European Union diplomatic chief Federica Mogherini said the bloc, as well as Britain, France and Germany, deeply regretted the move by Washington.

They said that Americans stand with the Iranian people in their demands in recent protests, mainly against how the Iranian regime is taking money from the country to fund militias and wars overseas. Russian Federation and China also signed on to the 2015 deal.

Asked about any possible exemptions to the renewed sanctions, officials said they would examine any requests on a case-by-case basis.

The renewed sanctions will squeeze Iran economically, nearly immediately.

A European Commission spokeswoman on Monday (6 August) told reporters in Brussels that EU firms are banned from following United States demands to cut business ties with Iran, unless specifically authorised to do so.

"Prices have been increasing for three or four months and everything we need has become so expensive, even before sanctions returned", said Yasaman, a 31-year-old photographer in Tehran.

"We are always in favor of diplomacy and talks..."

President Hassan Rouhani's administration also replaced the Central Bank governor and took other measures to shore up the national currency.

The official said the United States expects Iran will blame it for any new hardships, saying, "They've been doing it for nearly 40 years".

"Looking at the region from Yemen to Syria to Gaza, the Iranian regime is using the resources they had got from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action [the official name of the 2015 deal] to spread human misery across the region, instead of investing it in their people at home", an official said.

"Do you think this person (Trump) is a good and suitable person to negotiate with?"

The US today reimposed extraterritorial sanctions on Iran, meaning that foreign companies that do not comply with them could be fined or face being cut-off from the US market.

The Iranian rial hit a new low of 111,000 to the USA dollar last week, as more labour strikes and protests were reported on social media.

He said Washington was becoming isolated internationally and would come to regret imposing sanctions against the views of its allies and other world powers.

He called on the countries of Europe to join the U.S., saying, "The time has come to stop talking; the time has come to do".

"They want to launch psychological warfare against the Iranian nation", Mr Rouhani said.
