  • Conor McGregor vs Khabib Nurmagomedov Announced For UFC 229

Around this time previous year, McGregor was in Los Angeles alongside Floyd Mayweather at a massive press event.

"No, we don't have time for a World Tour", White confirmed at the UFC 227 post fight press conference.

Rumors of a couple of different dates have been circulating for the would-be fight between Conor McGregor and his rival, Khabib Nurmagomedov.

McGregor (21-3) simultaneously held the featherweight and lightweight championship belts during his meteoric UFC career, but he hasn't fought in MMA since taking the 155-pound lightweight belt from Eddie Alvarez in November 2016.

A press conference on Friday to mark UFC's 25th anniversary was drawing to a close when White said: "We have one last thing we want to show you".

That led to charges for McGregor, who escaped a jail term and criminal record after pleading guilty to disorderly conduct, paving the way for the bout against Nurmagomedov.

His lightweight title was stripped and subsequently claimed by Nurmagomedov in April.

This battle should be the most anticipated event of the year and will be part of UFC 229.

Nurmagomedov, whose rise to prominence has been more of a slow burner in comparison to McGregor, was touted as an opponent when his foe first became lightweight champion. "For Khabib, who is undefeated and looked at as one of the best in the world, beating Conor is massive for him". Mayweather vs. McGregor was an event first and foremost, and whether or not a competitive fight ever came out of it was never really the point.

"I'm not fighting on that show", Diaz tweeted moments after stepping off stage, adding an expletive directed toward the UFC.

Those include a September 8 pay-per-view card in Dallas headlined by the Tyron Woodley-Darren Till welterweight title fight and a December 29 card in Las Vegas likely to feature a fight between women's champions Cris Cyborg and Amanda Nunes, although negotiations continue.
