Tiger-mania rules the day at PGA Championship

  • Ian Poulter fired a three-under 67 despite only one practice day

Brooks Koepka, holding his nerve to fight off dramatic challenges from Tiger Woods and Adam Scott, won a thrilling back-nine battle Sunday to capture the 100th PGA Championship.

His most stirring performance in years left Woods second, two shots behind victor Koepka, who shot 66 to finish with a 16-under 264 and claim his third major in the last seven.

"It was unbelievable, absolutely unbelievable", said Fox of the atmosphere on course when Woods was on the charge.

Tiger Woods came up just short at the PGA Championship. He's going to be on the team one way or the other, whether he's a vice captain or a player and whichever role he is I'm looking forward to it and I know he is too.

"Scotty played unbelievably well and so did Tiger".

"It took so long I felt I was getting in Justin's way - he ended up making bogey as well". He tapped in for par on the final hole to set the PGA Championship scoring record at 264.

After a shaky start to the week, Finau finished strong with three birdies on his last five holes to finish in the 60s for the third straight day with a 68 for 3-under-par 277 total. "I had the most easy, basic, inside right putt that you could possibly have and I made it".

The 14-time major victor fired his lowest final round in a major, a six-under par-64, on Sunday to finish second at the PGA Championship - and a career once seen as over might just have some magic left in it after all.

"These fans were so positive all week".

Joining the 14-times major victor at eight under are American compatriots defending champion and world number two Justin Thomas, 2009 British Open victor Stewart Cink, Australian 2015 PGA champion Jason Day, Irishman Shane Lowry and South African 2011 Masters champion Charl Schwartzel, who matched the record low score in the 100-year history of the PGA Championship with a second-round 63. "It's amusing how things work", said Berger, who's also been dealing with a wrist injury this week.

The 28-year-old Floridian was generally a [23.0] chance before the off but he hit a high of [85.0] after a slow start, which saw him make the turn on day one on two-over-par.

Given from where he has come to this weekend, when his last three rounds (66-66-64) were his best by four shots across 54 holes of a major, Woods relished this as much as anything he's done in a long time.

"I'm just very pleased at what I've done so far and now to be part of the Ryder Cup conversation, going from where I've come from to now in the a year ago, it has been pretty cool", Woods said. "A bit of a struggle with my game today, but I hung in there".

Over a wild first nine holes, Woods didn't hit a single fairway off the tee but got up and down from everywhere.

The official qualifying for the American side of the 2018 Ryder Cup concluded on Sunday at the 2018 PGA Championship with the top eight players in the Ryder Cup points standings automatically qualifying for the team.

"I'm in uncharted territory", Woods said.

The impact was dramatic for rivals as well.

Koepka said he "could hear the roar of the crowds". Scott goes first and misses the chance for birdie.

"My swing hasn't been where I want it to be", he admitted.

Interestingly, Tiger's thrilling second-place finish at Bellerive moved him all the way up to 11th spot in the rankings.
