West Ham have announced the signing of Spanish striker Lucas Perez from Arsenal, confirming the 29-year-old's arrival on a three-year contract.

He returned to the La Liga side last season and many suspected he could have had a fresh start at the Emirates.

But Press Association Sport understands a transfer across London to join the Hammers is edging closer as Thursday's transfer deadline approaches, with Perez wanting another chance to make his mark in England.

Perez arrived at the Olympic Stadium for just £4m - not even a quarter of the £17m the Gunners paid Deportivo la Coruna in 2016.

'I wish you all the best for the future and I hope you can go and achieve great things'.

West Ham director of football Mario Husillos, who added Perez's name to a list of signings that includes Yarmolenko, Ryan Fredericks, Lukasz Fabianski, Issa Diop, Jack Wilshere, Fabian Balbuena and Felipe Anderson, underlined the Spaniard's versatility. I am always aiming as high as I can and if we can put West Ham in the Champions League why not?

The Hammers have been leading the way, with Manuel Pellegrini looking to continue a busy summer of spending.

Chicharito added: "The manager called me before the World Cup because he knew my situation was hard at the end of last season, and he made me feel very good".

Not content with having Lucas Perez lined-up, Manuel Pellegrini is also pushing to bolster his side's midfield ranks with the addition of Fiorentina's Carlos Sanchez - who will be remembered for his previous spell at Aston Villa, where he left a lot to be desired.

"Lucas also has experience of the Premier League with Arsenal, and is familiar with life here in London, which of course means that he will take less time to adapt and be ready".
