Westminster crash: Counter-terror police lead investigation - what we know so far

The crash occurred at 7:37 am local time.

Police went on to say that at number of pedestrians were hurt in the incident, but it's not believed their injuries were life-threatening.

Police said they arrested the male driver, though no further details were provided.

Counterterrorism police are investigating, though authorities say they're keeping an "open mind" about the incident. St. Thomas' hospital issued a statement shortly before 12 p.m. saying the hospital had now discharged the patient in its care.

Witness Jason Williams spoke to ITV's Good Morning Britain about the incident. The guards started creaming to people to move away. He has been taken to a south London police station where he remains in police custody.

Of the three known to be injured in the incident, one received treatment on-scene, and two were hospitalized.

Security measures in the area were reinforced after the Westminster Bridge attack in March 2017. Westminster Underground Station is also closed.

Eyewitness Ewelina Ochab told The Associated Press that the crash appeared deliberate.

"The vehicle went onto the wrong side of the road to where cyclists were waiting at lights and ploughed into them.

We still don't know the motive for why that auto drove at those barriers", he said. I turned around and I saw a silver auto driving very fast close to the railings, maybe even on the pavement.
