The Indian Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rain in the state until Saturday, and it has issued a "red alert" for 12 out of its 14 districts.

TVS Motor Company has contributed Rs 10 million to the Kerala Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF) in lieu of the distressing flood situation in Kerala.

The authorities waited a bit too long to open all the five sluice gates of the Idukki arch dam to conserve as much water as possible.

The flood situation in Kerala further worsened today with many areas inundated and flight operations suspended till Saturday at Kochi airport, as the death toll rose to 67. The company has also announced customer service support to its brand vehicles which were damaged in the inundations in the State.

All the rivers in the state have breached their banks, right from Kasaragod to Thiruvananthapuram. The authorities were forced to open 33 dams across Kerala.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan appealed to the people for generous contributions to battle the worst floods faced by Kerala in almost a century. The Union minister informed that 14 worldwide flights operated by airlines such as Air Arabia, Emirates, Etihad, Sri Lankan airways were rescheduled to and from Thiruvananthapuram instead of Kochi during the day. The rail link between north and south Kerala is closed as railways suspended train traffic at Aluva and Angamaly stations after flooding on Wednesday night.

More than 100 families in and around the Pechiparai and Peruchani dams in Kanyakumari district in Tamil Nadu have been evacuated by the district administration due to discharge of waters from the dams.

Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan called for an emergency meeting of top officials on Thursday morning, and called up Union home minister Rajnath Singh, requesting more central forces.

"The situation is bad in many parts of the state and the number (of deaths) will likely increase", a senior official from the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority said.

Former KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran and his wife were among the many people shifted from a high end residential area after rain water gushed into their house. In Aluva's Kondotty, a masjid acting as a relief camp has more than knee-high water. Several trains, including the Kalka-Shimla Mail, have been cancelled and six national highways are among the 900 roads across the state that have been shut. Hilly districts of Idukki and Wayanad are experincing extremely heavy rain and heavy rainfall in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts.
