Kaepernick, the former National Football League and 49ers quarterback, is one of the athletes featured in the 30th anniversary of Nike's "Just Do It" campaign.
Other athletes featured in the ad campaign include New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., skateboarder Lacey Baker and Seattle Seahawks linebacker Shaquem Griffin, who is an amputee with one hand.
Kaepernick, a former quarterback with the San Francisco 49ers, rose to prominence after electing to kneel during the USA national anthem to protest racial injustice.
In the two-minute advert Kaepernick narrates before appearing halfway through.
The problem with most of the commentary I've heard and read is that it's delivered by middle-aged or older men, majority white, who aren't even close to Nike's target audience.
On Wednesday morning, the athlete released a new commercial with the famous brand that urges consumers to dream big no matter what the naysayers say.
"Much respect to Nike, much respect to Colin Kaepernick for standing up for what he believes in and bringing attention to those problems and staying strong".
Trump said in an interview with The Daily Caller, a conservative website, that "there's no reason" for Nike to feature Kaepernick in the campaign. "Ask if they are insane enough".
Nike stock leveled off after the initial reaction to the ad. From NFL teams to pop culture references, it's been great fun hunting down these spin-off advertisements.
"I feel they can choose or they cannot choose and it's their choice".
Kaepernick already had a deal with Nike that was set to expire, but it was renegotiated into a multiyear agreement to make him one of the faces of Nike's 30th anniversary "Just Do It" campaign, according to a person familiar with the situation who spoke on condition of anonymity because details of the detail had not been revealed publicly.
Nike will also donate money to Kaepernick's "Know Your Rights" campaign. Nike's use of Kaepernick in the "Just Do It" ad seems to affirm that dedication, Holt said, because it will inevitably alienate some customers.
"I biked across America, and I did my Ironman and Nike was like, Charlie, we see you", he told TMZ.
Williams was also questioned about the role of athletes in social activism and responded: "I don't think athletes have a role to play".
"If Nike is ashamed of America, we are ashamed of them", College of the Ozarks President Jerry C. Davis said in a statement.
"I stand for anybody that believes in change".
The tweet inspired more players to kneel, which revived the issue between the players and their rights within the NFL.
