Global summit rebukes Trump, cheers on work to aid climate

Brown added that reducing coal regulations and subsidizing it, as well as reducing California vehicle standards, are major assaults on the well-being of people in the state and in the world.

Some environmental activists argue Brown's galactic focus is misplaced, and point to his support for fracking and urban oil drilling.

So how much do its efforts matter in a practical sense?

At a signing ceremony in the state capital Sacramento, Mr Brown vowed to meet the terms of the Paris agreement and to "continue down that path to transition our economy to zero carbon emissions". "This is sort of encouraging". It comes days after Brown approved California's new goal of phasing out electricity produced by fossil fuels by 2045.

At the summit, Brown extracted dozens of new promises from states, cities and businesses to cut their own carbon pollution.

In the healthy energy systems, an alliance of more than 60 state/regional, city governments and multinational businesses are now committed to a 100 per cent zero emission targets through the ZEV Challenge. Promises were made to green ports, protect forests, and invest in battery storage for renewable power. Brown's actions have helped reinforce collective resolve.

"I didn't get that moniker for nothing!" he said as he fired up the crowd. "It's a demonstration of activism, it's a demonstration of will, it's a demonstration of engagement by all sorts of sub-national players, and I think that's all been tremendously useful".

Key commitments in these five areas will be presented at the end of the Global Climate Action Summit today, and by the New York Climate Week in a fortnight, UN Climate Change will have uploaded all the actions under each of these five areas to the area, effectively serving as the legacy tool for the Summit. This was billed as a success story by the two leaders, and the report also contained a roadmap to getting the U.S. much closer to its Paris goal.

These are aimed at avoiding risks and seizing the opportunities outlined in a suite of reports, including the new Unlocking the Inclusive Growth Story of the 21st Century by the New Climate Economy.

We also want to help United Kingdom businesses capitalise on the growing investment opportunities as countries transition to clean, low carbon economies.

Frances Seymour, a senior fellow at the World Resources Institute, a Washington-based think tank, said the gathering marked the start of more united climate action by government bodies and agencies beyond the US national government, with disparate alliances and initiatives now "gelling".

That may be why Gov. This culminated with its inclusion in the Paris Agreement outcome where countries welcomed the efforts of these actors to scale up their climate actions and encouraged the registration of these actions on NAZCA.
