  • 4 updates coming to Google Chrome for its 10th birthday

On the desktop, the tabs have been redesigned to be more modern and consistent, to match with all the other Material Design elements of the browser.

If you've been a fan of Google Chrome since it first launched 10 years ago, you've probably witnessed most - if not all - of the browser's major updates.

Google has improved the Omnibox to make it even more easier to use. Google today announced a wide set of changes coming to the world's most popular browser - some aesthetic, and some functional.

Users looking for a taste of this new look have been able to try it out by using Chrome Canary, the public beta version of Chrome. It is hoped to disable Flash by default in Chrome 76 (July 2019), and remove it from Chrome for good with version 87 (in December 2020) to coincide with Adobe's own plans to retire the plugin. For users who wish to update to the new Chrome, can do so by downloading it from the link or updating it using the built-in updater.

You'll find deeper changes as well. Users can even add the search bar to the bottom of the page in iOS and can enjoy general simplification of the menus in Chrome.

Plus, there are customisable options, too.

Tab backgrounds can now be customised with the photo of the user's choice and shortcuts can be created directly from the new tab. This new feature allows you customize the new tab page so that it shows the tiles you want and also allows you to edit the names of existing shortcut tiles.

For example, start typing the word weather, or sporting results, and you'll see the results appear right within the bar. Google says credit cards entered on a device are now securely synced to Google Pay on other devices, if you have the mobile wallet enabled.

For the last 24 hours, since the official rollout of the new Chrome 69, countless of users have gone on Twitter, Reddit, and the Google Product Forums [1, 2, 3, 4], to complain about "blurry" or "fuzzy" text inside Chrome.

Staying secure on the web means using strong and unique passwords for every different site and Chrome will now generate one for you which is instantly saved within the browser. That said, Chrome will still save any password you wish, and then make it available on PC and phone. That should be another nail in Flash's coffin, which could help rid the web of an outdated plugin that creates more performance and security problems than it's worth, but it could also become frustrating if you often have to visit a site that relies on Flash. "We've also integrated machine learning to detect phishing and malware sites, and most recently began applying it to detect malicious extensions".
