  • A boat collision near Moabi Regional Park on Saturday evening resulted in 13 injuries and two missing people authorities said

The three were among more than a dozen people ejected from two boats in the crash Saturday night. He said it was possible that the missing - one male and three females - had made it to the shore.

Divers returned to the roaring Colorado River Monday in search of four people missing and presumed dead after a grisly, head-on boat collision along the California-Arizona border that injured 13 other people.

Sherwin says one person has life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital in Las Vegas.

Nine people were injured, including two people who suffered critical injuries in the incident less than 15 miles (24 km) south of the California town of Needles, the sheriff's office said.

Some of the passengers were carried miles down the river before they were found, while others were pulled from the water by passing boaters, the sheriff's office said.

The cause of the crash is being investigated by Mohave County authorities, Sherwin said.

Numerous boats were in the water at the park on Saturday, a popular recreational area where the river's depth ranges from shallow to 30 feet.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, Arizona Department of Public Service Air Rescue and Care Flight all deployed helicopters in the search.

The search operation has shut down a two-mile area of the river, Schuster said. He said low light conditions undoubtedly played a role.None of the boaters were wearing life vests when the collision occurred, said Anita Mortensen, a spokeswoman for the Mohave County Sheriff's Office.

Search crews have been tirelessly scouring the river since the crash, with the sheriff's office saying it would continue to patrol "until all the unaccounted for passengers are located". Rescuers had to call off the search for the missing until Sunday morning because it was too risky to put divers in the flowing water after dark.
