Regarding the Washington case, Manafort was accused of acting as an unregistered foreign agent, conspiring to launder money, and lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Justice Department about the nature of his work.
Earlier Friday, special counsel Robert Mueller filed a superseding criminal information document, which presages a plea deal. Yet, Jackson said the request appeared to relate more to concerns about the political affiliation of Washington residents, rather than a unique amount of pretrial publicity.
The jury convicted him of five counts of filing false income tax returns, one count of failing to file a report of a foreign bank account in 2012 and two counts of bank fraud.
It's not clear whether Manafort will cooperate with Mueller's investigation as part of the deal.
Prosecutors had filed new charging documents against Manafort.
Another approach would be for him to plead guilty without cooperating in hopes of a presidential pardon.
The court then changed Manafort's scheduled appearance later in the morning to an arraignment and plea hearing.

The move toward a guilty plea is another reversal for Manafort, who has fought vociferously - but unsuccessfully - against Mueller's probe. The second count, for conspiracy to obstruct justice, concerns attempts to tamper with witnesses related to Manafort's foreign lobbying. "MANAFORT generated more than 60 million dollars in income as a result of his Ukraine work".
The case was brought by Mueller's team, which is probing potential crimes related to the 2016 election.
