Nick Saban apologizes to ESPN host after quarterback tirade

Who will play between Tua Tagovailoa, who got the start and threw for 227 yards on 12-of-16 passing with two touchdowns, and Jalen Hurts, who started most of last season, has been the question Saban can not escape, and it is the question that hovers over Alabama's season.

"I think everybody knows that Tua's going to start this game and we're going to use Jalen's skill-set in the future to help however we feel he can benefit the team", Saban said. I think both guys are good players. "Alright, so why do you continually get me to say something that doesn't respect one of them?" Meanwhile, Jalen Hurts completed 5-of-9 pass attempts for 70 yards and rushed for nine yards.

Saban appears to have made amends with Taylor following the awkward moment, and it's a resolution many would agree was necessary. I'm not going to. There was nothing different about that premise going into this season, except for the fact this year's QBs were both on the team last year and played key roles in winning another national championship for Alabama.

Saban has been around long enough to know how this works.

As Saban was leaving the field after Alabama's 51-14 win over the Cardinals on Saturday, ESPN's Maria Taylor asked a question about the quarterback competition that clearly frustrated Saban. Could Saban have handled that one better? It's Tua Tagovailoa, which isn't a surprise seeing as he started Alabama's win against Louisville in Week 1, but it was still the first start of his collegiate career.
