  • Nintendo is rolling out its Switch Online service next week

Nintendo has confirmed that the Nintendo Switch Online service will be going live on 19th September in Europe, and the day before (18th) in North America.

The premium service was originally slated to arrive in late 2017, but was eventually pushed back by nearly a year.

As announced before, the Switch Online service will cost $29.95 for 12 months, $11.95 for three months and $5.95 for a month-on-month subscription.

The Direct, which was rescheduled following the quake that struck Hokkaido earlier this month, will include news on 3DS titles, Switch games and the long awaited Nintendo Switch Online service.

Nintendo Switch Online has been a long time coming. The support site says people have until 5pm PT/7pm CT/8pm ET on September 18, 2018 to unlink an account ahead of the firmware update. We've seen lots of evidence over the past week that the new date for the Direct will be September 13th, and now we finally have official word from Nintendo on the matter.

Nintendo had previously revealed that the Nintendo Switch would eventually require an online subscription similar to PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live in order to play games online.

Nintendo Switch Online will also give subscribers the ability to back up their save data in the cloud.
