  • SpaceX's Giant BFR Rocket Will Launch a Passenger Around the Moon

SpaceX put out the teaser via Twitter late Thursday, and Musk also tweeted out the news.

Last night was no exception. Details on who is flying - and why - will be revealed during a live webcast on September 17 at 6:00 p.m. Will it be a boy or a girl?

When asked if he himself is the passenger, he hinted that the mystery person is Japanese by tweeting the country's flag.

Billionaire Elon Musk's SpaceX has signed the world's first private passenger to fly around the Moon aboard.

This lunar mission - a flyby, not a landing - represents "an important step toward enabling access for everyday people who dream of traveling to space", SpaceX said in a tweet.

After people responded with questions, Musk weighed in and confirmed that the render of the Big Falcon Rocket, which is still in development, is new and "intentionally" created to resemble one seen in a classic Tintin comic.

SpaceX said it has signed the first private moon traveler, with some changes to its original game plan. Laliberté was the seventh and last space tourist, prior to SpaceX's announcement on Monday.

Musk responded to questions from Twitter users following the announcement, saying that the rocket is still in development and has been "intentionally" created to resemble one seen in a classic comic book series, "The Adventures of Tintin".

Shortly after his successful Falcon Heavy Launch, Musk said he expected a "full-scale test" of the massive rocket within the next few years.

Two more cargo missions would follow in 2024 to provide more construction materials, along with two crewed flights, according to earlier reports.
