Trump's lawyers open to giving Mueller written answers on collusion question

Robert Mueller has chose to accept written answers from President Trump regarding the ongoing investigation into Russian collusion - but may attempt a follow-up interview at a later date, a report said Tuesday.

Two people briefed on the matter told The New York Times that Mueller's office made the concession in a letter to the president's legal team. The Associated Press, reporting separately citing a person familiar with the letter, said Mueller's office "indicated it would later assess what additional information it needs from the president, leaving open the possibility that Mueller's team might still seek answers on obstruction-related questions in an in-person interview".

Special counsel has reportedly agreed to take written answers from President on key questions about Russian Federation collusion.

President Trump is pushing especially hard for Kavanaugh's confirmation, Noah said, suggesting one possible reason: "While he's being investigated, he nominates a guy who thinks presidents shouldn't be investigated".

"We continue to maintain an ongoing dialogue with the office of the special counsel", Trump's lawyer Jay Sekulow told reporters.

The president has said many times he would be willing to speak with Mueller but would await his legal teams guidance. In March, Mueller raised the prospect of subpoenaing Trump if he refused to be questioned voluntarily. He wrote then: 'Is Robert Mueller ever going to release his conflicts of interest with respect to President Trump, including the fact that we had a very nasty & contentious business relationship, I turned him down to head the Federal Bureau of Investigation (one day before appointment as S.C.) & Comey is his close friend'.

It's not clear how Trump got the photos or what he does with them.

The AP writes, "The move by Mueller comes after he has issued two lengthy indictments detailing Russian efforts to interfere in the presidential campaign". Giuliani has said Trump does not recall asking Comey to drop an investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn and he does not want the president to be accused of lying about the episode.

Mr. Trump's legal team has not seen the questions from the special counsel.

And for another, Trump claimed, without any proof that Comey and Mueller are "best friends" and even more, of the "hugging and kissing" variety.
