  • LeBron James hits a triple-double in first home Los Angeles Lakers win

PHOENIX - After an angry Luke Walton held nothing back on his team's poor defense at the morning team meeting, the Los Angeles Lakers responded to their coach and rode a dominant second quarter to their first victory of the season. Stephenson finished with 12 points.

JaVale McGee also continued to exceed expectations, posting his best game as a Laker with 20 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks in 25 minutes.

When Kobe Bryant took a courtside seat in the first quarter, Staples Center buzzed with excitement for the mere sight of the most popular athlete in this building's history.

Phoenix Suns star Devin Booker, meanwhile, was already in the locker room as the Lakers finished off a game in the desert filled with Hollywood highlights.

Los Angeles was without Rajon Rondo and Brandon Ingram for their roles in an altercation with the Houston Rockets on Saturday night. He's an all-time Lakers great, what he's done for this franchise in his 20 plus years that he was here.

"Tonight he had five steals, every time he's in the line-up, he has two, three, four steals, deflections, all those things, and helping us get on the break".

The Lakers had seven players in double figures.

Lonzo Ball scored 12 points with eight assists for the Lakers, while Josh Hart added 12 points in his second start of the season.

Nikola Jokic scored 24 points for the Nuggets, who were off to their best start since the 2009-10 season.

Removing this year's preseason game from the equation, the last time that James faced the Nuggets he delivered one of the most clutch performances of his entire career.

But Phoenix committed four turnovers in a 17-2 Los Angeles outburst that put the Lakers up 63-43 on Josh Hart's running dunk with 3:51 left in the first half.

On Stephenson, James said: "When Lance steps on the floor, he's a spark for us". The Ukrainian guard scored his first National Basketball Association points one night earlier in Phoenix. "We had a couple good defensive possessions and showed some kind of resistance defensively and we had a close game. We felt like their big man couldn't match our intensity, so when I got in there, I was like, 'Man, I'm going to attack the big man'".
