  • Police made a fool of Tanushree Dutta in 2008 by not naming Nana Patekar Ganesh Acharya in FIR Lawyer

The Maharashtra State Commission for Women on Tuesday took cognisance of sexual harassment charges levelled by actress and former Miss India Tanushree Dutta on critically-acclaimed actor Nana Patekar. Patekar and the others have been given ten days to file their replies.

A police complaint was filed by Tanushree at Oshiwara police station on Saturday.

The commission also asked film producers, media houses and cine artistes' associations to set up an internal committee to address complaints filed by women in Bollywood.

The commission has also written to the Mumbai police, seeking information on the action it had taken on Ms Dutta's complaint in this regard. Patekar, however, refuted these allegations and said that "a lie will remain a lie".

The women's commission has asked the police for an update of the investigation and has asked the actress to appear before it to record her statement. Apart from Nana Patekar, she had named choreographer Ganesh Acharya in the police complaint. It read, "Sorry to be messaging at this hour, just wanted to inform that there's no press conference tomorrow, please pass on the message to your colleagues in the media".

Patekar has denied the allegations and had sent Dutta a legal notice to withdraw the claims and issue an apology.

She had also claimed that Nana demanded she should shoot a lewd step with him and when she refused, members of a political party were called who threatened her and vandalised her auto.

The incident can be traced back to the year 2008, when Tanushree Dutta was shooting with Nana Patekar for a song in the film Horn Ok Pleassss.
