  • Erdogan, Trump hold phone conversation on Khashoggi

Turkish officials suspect the body of Mr Khashoggi, a Washington Post columnist and critic of powerful Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, was cut up but the Saudi official said it was rolled up in a rug and given to a "local cooperator" for disposal.

A pro-government Turkish newspaper is reporting that a member of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's entourage made four calls to the royal's office from the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul the day Jamal Khashoggi was killed.

Salah expressed his honest thanks to the prince for his condolences, according to the SPA.

Following a telephone conversation between Saudi Arabia's King Salman and Donald Trump, the United States president told reporters that the king had denied all knowledge of Khashoggi's disappearance.

On Sunday, its foreign minister, Adel al-Jubeir, went further, describing Khashoggi's death on Fox News as a "murder" and a "tremendous mistake".

On Friday Saudi Arabia admitted that the journalist died in a fight inside its consulate.

The European Union says the emerging details of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi's death are "deeply troubling" and that a "continued thorough, credible and transparent investigation" is needed.

"First, we condemn this act in the strongest terms", the German leader said.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said Sunday he would reveal the "truth" about the Khashoggi case on Tuesday while Turkish officials vowed to pursue the case after Saudi Arabia's admission of guilt.

"Yes, I think he did it", said Senator Bob Corker. "We feel their pain", Jubeir told the USA broacaster Fox.

The next day a Saudi official insisted that Khashoggi had left shortly after getting the paperwork and that he was "not in the consulate nor in Saudi custody". He urged U.S. President Donald Trump, the U.S. Congress and the global community to demand evidence of what happened to Mr. Khashoggi.

U.S. President Donald Trump had also talked about possible punishment but said he didn't want to halt a proposed $110 billion arms sale to Saudi Arabia because, he maintained, it would harm U.S. manufacturers. But in an interview with The Post late Saturday, Trump conceded that there had been "deception".

Turkey and Saudi Arabia have been at odds over what happened inside the consulate ever since Khashoggi, a critic of the Saudi monarchy, disappeared there on October 2.

Four hours before the killing, al-Madani was seen entering the consulate building beardless, wearing a blue and white checked shirt and dark blue pants but, moments after the incident, al-Madani can be seen wearing what appears to be Khashoggi's own dark blazer, open-collared grey shirt and pants. Speaking late Saturday after a campaign rally in Nevada, Trump said he needs to learn more about the killing and will be working with Congress on the US response.

Paul said that he doesn't believe that "arms should ever be seen as a jobs program", adding that the Saudis are using US arms in the war in Yemen where civilians are being killed. Khashoggi had gone to the consulate to arrange paperwork for their marriage. "All of this needs to be explained in all its details", President Erdogan said on Sunday.

Speaking late Saturday after a campaign rally in Nevada, he said he will be talking to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman soon. That explanation has sparked allegations of a cover-up meant to shield the powerful crown prince.

"We're trying to ascertain the facts as to what happened in the consulate", he said.

In a statement Sunday, the governments said attacks on journalists are unacceptable and "of utmost concern to our three nations". Some governments and prominent executives have said they would pull out of a forthcoming investment conference in Saudi Arabia.
