Your Facebook account is NOT being cloned, it's all a hoax

  • Officials warn against Facebook hoax messages

"If a person is genuinely concerned they are the victim of Facebook cloning, they should go to the profile and report it to Facebook", WXYZ reports.

You can also choose 3 to 5 friends that you can contact if you are locked out of your account, which offers an easy way for you to get your access back.

There is no bug or virus now confirmed that is sending your Friends fake requests.

The issue is that people are falling for the hoax and pasting this to their friends, but there really isn't any need to because it's unlikely so many people have been hacked.

No, your Facebook account is not being cloned, despite that viral message that keeps popping up in your inbox.

The message falsely instructs users to forward the warning to their friends claiming that cybercriminals were likely to mimic their accounts and send duplicate friend requests.

As CBS News reported, the viral message asks Facebook users to hold their finger on the message for an extended period of time until a button with an option to forward the message appears.

The massive social hoax started when you, or someone you know, received a message from a Facebook friend saying they've received a friend request from you, WXYZ reports.

If one of the messages is received, Kelso says users should simply ignore and delete the message.

The second part of the message encourages those reading it to share it with their friends. The 26 friends hoax came as Facebook announced some major changes to how it picked which posts to display in your news feed, leading to a lot of speculation and anxiety about how the company's algorithms choose what you see for you.

If there is one that looks suspicious then you can select it and choose the "not you" option which will then lead to Facebook helping you to secure your account.

Facebook was yet to comment on this.
