  • 'What's going on?' Facebook chaos as Messenger app crashes worldwide

To express their thoughts and make light of the situation users are taking to Twitter using the hashtags #Facebookdown #Instagramdown.

"Your Time on Facebook" tool will allow users to set a daily limit of app usage and receive a reminder to stop after that many minutes each day.

Thousands of users across the world have reported the outage. "We're working to resolve the issue as soon as possible", a Facebook spokesperson tells Mashable in a statement.

Down Detector shows most outages are in the central areas and east coast of the United States and throughout Europe. And the "Friends on Facebook" section simply brings up a list of pending friend requests and suggestions; I don't see how that would help you manage your time spent in the app. The company has not yet explained the outage, which occurred just days after a connection problem brought down Instagram and WhatsApp, both owned by Facebook.

'We are planning to introduce Dark Mode after we've finished rolling out the new Messenger to everyone globally, ' Facebook wrote.

You can access Your Time On Facebook by tapping the menu option in the Facebook app, and then tapping Settings & Privacy, followed by Your Time On Facebook.
