Google's Incredible Night Sight Mode Was Worth The Wait

  • Google Rolls Out Night Sight Tech to Improve Quality of Low-Light Photos

Night Sight may be wonderful when it comes to taking low-light pictures but it is not magic, so you'll still have to abide by the normal rules when taking pictures in dark environments. While that simply sounds a lot like the use of a longer exposure, that's not exactly the full story here as Night Sight is taking multiple frames and then merging them together to produce the single image end result.

But now one of those missing additions, Night Sight, is finally rolling out to Pixel 3 owners, and after having the chance to test it out for a few days, I can safely say Google's sophisticated camera feature was worth the wait. To cure it, Google has added a new Night Sight feature, which helps the smartphone to capture crispier and lightened up photos. But as it turns out, the "Night Sight" is not only for night shots. With Night Sight, Google extends the capture time to gather more data about the scene.

Once the Pixel 2's Phone app gets upgraded with the new feature, the "Call Screen" option will appear just above the "green phone" icon lights up during an incoming call. That's equivalent to a dim room, but one in which you'd still be able to read a book.

Google announced the news in a blog post detailing their revolutionary technology and it went ahead and compared the pictures taken on Pixel 3 with iPhone XS. That might involve finding a friend also looking to upgrade to the Pixel 3 and plotting to share the promotion with them.

Here are a handful of additional Night Sight comparisons.

Google has released the November security updates for its Pixel range last week, with a change to how Night Mode and Battery Saver interact.

Got some Night Sight photos on my #Google #Pixel3 and God damnit! The image was shot using Google Pixel 3XL at f/1.8 aperture, ISO64 and at 12.2MP resolution.
