Trump Demands Journos to Respect White House After Revoking Acosta's Press Pass

  • John Legend criticized President Trump on Twitter Wednesday

CNN sued Donald Trump's administration Tuesday, alleging the White House violated journalist Jim Acosta's rights under the constitution by revoking his press credentials following a heated exchange with the United States president.

While Trump called the reporter who asked about the video "dishonest", that was mild compared to his treatment of April Ryan, a White House correspondent for American Urban Radio Networks, and CNN's Abby Phillip.

Chatelain said Trump's behavior demonstrates his contempt toward people of color and women, even as he continues to denounce many members of the media as "fake news."These reporters really represent three segments of the population that this president has often used to air out his deepest hostilities, and his deepest held racism", Chatelain said".

It came just four days after Acosta was denied entrance into the White House for "placing hands on a young woman" trying to take his microphone as he asked U.S. President Donald Trump a question.

If by "respect" Trump means the type of questions that are asked and the way they are asked, the White House is on shaky legal footing. "I don't think he's a smart person but he has a loud voice", Mr Trump told reporters in a testy 20-plus-minute exchange before he left for Paris and a First World War commemoration ceremony. The next day, the CNN reporter found that his press pass into the White House had been revoked and that he would not be permitted to enter.

But a frame-by-frame comparison with the original clip appeared to show that the one tweeted by Sanders was altered to speed up Acosta's arm movement as he pulled the mic away from her.

"While the suit is specific to CNN and Acosta, this could have happened to anyone", the network said.

In a Thursday afternoon statement, Whitney Shefte, president of the White House News Photographers Association, said, "As visual journalists, we know that manipulating images is manipulating truth. She shouldn't be. You've got to treat the White House and the office of the presidency with respect". But that's not what was done by the White House. And Trump warned Friday that other reporters could have their security badges revoked, too. In the real video, it's clear he did nothing of sort.

Ryan, speaking on CNN on Friday, said that the three presidents she covered before Trump "understood that reporters were part of the underpinning of this nation". "That's just a lie", said Kimmel. "What a stupid question, and I watch you a lot, and you ask a lot of stupid questions".

US President Donald Trump isn't new to fights with journalists.

'We strongly reject the idea that any administration would block a journalist's access to the White House'. CEO Jeff Zucker, in a letter to White House chief of staff John Kelly, called it a "pattern of targeted harassment".

In the meantime, Acosta has continued to report without physical access to the White House grounds; he is now in Paris to cover Trump's trip to France.
