Trump Tweets Controversial Video of Immigrant Cop Killer

  • What you need to know about Georgias current Republican secretary of state who is facing off against a Democratic former state legislator in the race for governor

His image - complete with shaved head, long chin hair and accented English - is now the centerpiece of a video tweeted out by President Trump as part of his closing argument on immigration less than a week before midterm elections that could alter the path of his presidency. Retiring Republican Sen. Jeff Flake called it "sickening".

As for the new video, though, the campaign was silent Thursday and Parscale did not respond to requests for comment.

"Illegal immigrant, Luis Bracamontes, killed our people!" reads text on the ad, which shows an unrepentant Bracamontes smiling in court and promising to kill more officers if he gets out. The man also featured in a January video tied to the anniversary of Trump's January 20, 2017 inauguration.

By 2002, he traveled back to the US and married an American citizen, staying in the country.

Critics blasted the president for releasing the spot and compared it to the blatantly racist "Willie Horton ad" that George H.W. Bush's campaign used in 1988 against Democratic candidate and Massachusetts Gov. Michael Dukakis.

The whole advert centered around William Horton, an African American man who in 1987, raped a white woman and stabbed her white fiancé, after he was released on a weekend furlough from the MA prison where he was serving his life sentence.

It includes scenes of a migrant caravan moving toward the United States, warning ominously, "Who else would Democrats let in?" and suggesting that more violence would soon penetrate the border.

Dukakis supported the furlough program.

"The reason Trump will be here is he is nervous because his candidate might lose", Bernie Sanders, the former Democratic presidential candidate and independent senator for Vermont, told students at the University of Central Florida in Orlando.

But Bracamontes was first deported during the Clinton administration and later slipped back into the US during the George W. Bush administration, according to federal documents obtained by the Sacramento Bee.

"Who else would the Democrats allow in?" the ad asks, before promising that Trump and the Republicans are "making America safe again". As of Thursday morning, it had received 2.65 million views in less than 24 hours.

"This is distracting, divisive Donald at his worst", Perez said on CNN's 'Cuomo Prime Time.' "This is fear mongering".

The video stood in stark contrast to an ad circulated by the Trump campaign earlier in the week that highlighted rosy economic numbers and depicted gauzy scenes of American suburban life.
