The city government of Tijuana announced Saturday that it has closed down a migrant shelter at a sports complex close to the US border that once held about 6,000 Central Americans who hope to get into the U.S.

The attempt to cross into the United States illegally came just days after the migrants were transferred from one temporary shelter to another after it had become unsanitary.

Having spent a month trekking towards the United States, numerous migrants are growing frustrated at the long wait that faces them at the border.

Scores of pregnant women travelled with the caravan through Mexico before reaching the USA border.

On a typical day before the caravan arrived in Tijuana, U.S. border patrol agents in the San Diego area detained about 120 or so people trying to cross the border illegally from Mexico.
