  • Adam Bros. Farming Recalls Lettuce and Cauliflower

The Canadian recall was triggered by a USA recall which came after multiple cases of food poisoning and E. coli contamination from certain lettuce products.

Adam Bros. Farming, Inc. recalled the produce after sediment taken from a reservoir where it was grown tested positive for the specific strain of E. coli linked to the current outbreak, E. coli O157:H7, according to the company.

No illnesses connected to those lettuce and cauliflower have been reported. And the company is asking that all its customers notify the "downline chain of custody" to make sure the recall is full and complete. None of the filtered, treated water has tested positive for E. coli, all E. coli tests returning negative.

"This bacteria may cause a diarrheal illness from which most healthy adults can recover completely within a week", the company said in a press release. CFIA confirms these products have been imported and sold across Canada to several Canadian provinces. The products could be found in the green cases in the produce departments of Giant Eagle and Market District locations. The CFIA is urging consumers unsure whether they have affected produce to contact their retailer for more information. Farming Inc. of Santa Maria California have been recalled.

Recalled cauliflower was distributed to wholesalers in California, Arizona, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania, along with Canada and Tijuana, Mexico.

Check with your grocer if you bought any red or green leaf lettuce or cauliflower from stores in those states.

The green leaf lettuce is identified on the package with PLU 4076.
