Clarke denies Australia cricket culture soured under his captaincy

  • Michael Clarke says Australia 'won't win' being nice

Simon Katich, whose relationship with Clarke fell apart after an argument over singing the team song in 2009, said that Australia's problems stemmed from more than just their aggression, but rather that they premeditatedly cheated. You get to know the conditions because you are playing here after a long time.

Furthermore, Michael Clarke said he would not stand by while "my leadership my integrity" got attacked.

"We played hard. He'd always say go out there and do what you've got to do to get into the contest but if you go personal - we wouldn't even think of using sandpaper - that's too far".

Gerard Whateley has taken Michael Clarke to task.

Tests by contrast - outside England and Australia - are often played in front of sparse crowds in big, echoing arenas.

Clarke said that fans want victory more than they want a likeable team and Australia's winning legacy is built on its hard-nosed attitude. Not to a captain, a coach or those passing through. I think we have played at times better cricket than the opposition away from home but it's those mistakes that have cost us that have been so extreme that we haven't been able to come back from them.

Nothing can replicate the intensity of a Test but Australia A, likely to feature some players on the cusp of Test selection, should prove a challenging opposition for Tim Paine's side.

India's bowlers struggled but the opening batsmen showed signs of form on the final day of the four-day game against Cricket Australia XI in Sydney.CA XI posted 544 in reply to India's first-innings score of 358, with Harry Nielsen scoring 100.

Rain delays start of India four-day tour matc...

India will play their first Test match against Australia on December 6, 2018, in Adelaide.

That Engineer played 46 Tests in just over 13 years while recently retired England batsman Alastair Cook made 161 Test appearances in 12-and-a-half years is an indication of just how congested the global calendar has become. Now the word "fight" evokes fist fights, verbal diarrhoea and racial and religious taunts.

Former India wicketkeeper Farokh Engineer said the Board of Control for Cricket in India had been "blinded" by Twenty20 to the detriment of an overall vision. And on our watch we want to try and win.

"At the same time we're going to be up and about and playing that tough, competitive Australian brand of cricket that Australia's always been renowned for, it's just knowing at times we might need to pull it back and make sure we're getting the most important thing right first, and that's our skill". The aim right now is to win the series and that is what everyone is focussing on.

"We had a fantastic series against India, closer than the margin suggests", said Gower during the inaugural Ranji Memorial Public Conversation on Cricket in London.

Paine though dismissed the notion that the Aussies want to be liked by opposing teams, saying the opposite is true and that they needed to get the public to trust in the team again in the wake of the ball-tampering scandal.

"Australian cricket, I think, needs to stop worrying about being liked and start worrying about being respected, " Clarke told Macquarie Sports Radio.

"We've been a disliked team for a number of years through that on-field behavior and it obviously came to a head in Cape Town".
