  • Wilder retains WBC heavyweight belt after battling to draw against Fury

ESPN.com scored it 114-112 for Wilder, who retained his belt for the eighth time.

There is a growing belief from quite a few observers - admittedly, mostly Tyson Fury fans - that Wilder's first knockdown was a punch to the back of the head, a move that is not permitted in boxing. "We're both warriors, but with those two drops I think I won the fight".

Wilder may have kept his title and exhibited so savagely why he is called the "Bronze Bomber", but it was Fury who controlled most of the fight.

This truly is one of the most anticipated heavyweight title showdowns we've seen in quite some time, and below is all the information you need to catch the historic fight on Saturday.

"But I'm showing total professionalism here". I went to Germany to fight [Wladimir] Klitschko, and I went to America to fight Deontay Wilder.

It's a decision that will be analysed and discussed a great deal over the coming days but it's clear that the Gypsy King dominated the contest.

"That man is a fearsome puncher, and I was able to avoid that".

Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sports, which promotes Joshua, stayed up to watch the fight from England and told ESPN.com via email: "I had Fury winning the fight as most did".

The final four were always going to be the most threatening when he exhausted and his reflexes may have waned, and so it gradually proved when after taking a left-right combination, a right hand to the back of the head knocked him to the canvas.

He made it to the final bell but fell short in his bid to regain the WBC title. Yet Fury rose, summoning strength at the critical moment of his comeback from a 2 ½-year ring absence amid bouts of drug abuse and depression.

Until a sensational final round knockdown from Wilder, Fury appeared to be heading towards what would have been a remarkable upset.

But Wilder and Fury may stage a rematch first. "If he doesn't want the fight, then we'd certainly be up for sitting down with Tyson too for that date as he deserves another shot". Fury, on a steady comeback after his career was almost derailed two years ago from personal issues, arguably never looked better in his life inside the ring.

"The rematch I guarantee I'm going to get him".

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 live's boxing podcast, Costello said: "It has created all this controversy and debate, but it came at the end not of a stinker, as many of us feared, but it's a draw that we are all talking about - it's contentious for me, rather than controversial".

They opened the fight looking to feel each other out and burned off nervous energy.

"We're on away soil, I got knocked down twice, but I still believe I won that fight", said Fury, who out-landed Wilder 84-71 overall.
